1940s Weekend at MK Museum: Step Back in Time!

Dates: 7th & 8th September
Time: 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: MK Museum

Pack up your kit bag and gather your family and friends for a nostalgic journey back to the 1940s, an era shaped by World War II. MK Museum invites you to experience history come alive during our 1940s Weekend!

Live Re-enactors
Get ready to meet and interact with live re-enactors from The Oxfordshire Home Guard and the Hertfordshire Home Guard, who will be preserving and promoting the memory of those who volunteered during the war. They’ll be on hand to share stories, answer your questions, and bring history to life.

You’ll also see the RAF Bomber Command, GI 44-45, and the dedicated women of the American Red Cross in action. And don’t miss Sunday’s special treat – a lively Dad’s Army reenactment featuring Captain Mainwaring and his platoon!

Song and Dance
Get into the swing of things with a good old sing-song and dance along with Museum favorite Lola Lamour, supported by Mick Wilson’s Skylark Music. Show off your Lindy Hop or Jitterbug skills, or if you prefer something a bit more laid-back, simply pull up a chair and enjoy a hot brew served by one of the Nippy waitresses while you watch the dancers in action.

Explore the Grounds
The fun continues outside in the Museum grounds where vintage singer and entertainer Johnny Victory will dazzle at the Band Stand. Browse vintage clothing, accessories, and bric-a-brac from our traders, and take in the fascinating “Railways at War” display in the Field Study Centre.

Don’t forget to explore the bustling Street of Shops, where store keepers will give you a glimpse into 1940s shopping. Pick up your ration book, exchange your new pennies for old ones, and indulge in some sweets at the Old Post Office!

Family Fun
There’s plenty for the kids too! They can get creative with arts and crafts activities, and embark on an exciting hunt to find the spy hiding in the Museum grounds.

Pay once, and enjoy free visits to the Museum for the rest of the year!
