Steel Magnolias
Stantonbury Theatre invites you to experience the heartwarming and emotional story of Steel Magnolias, a play that beautifully explores the deep bonds of female friendship. Set in the small town of Chinquapin, Louisiana, the story centers around six strong, distinct women who regularly gather at Truvy’s hair salon to share their lives, joys, and heartaches.
Truvy, the lively salon owner, and her eager assistant Annelle, welcome a colorful group of clients: Clairee, the town’s wealthy widow; Ouiser, the local curmudgeon; M’Lynn, the calm and collected career woman; and her daughter Shelby, whose upcoming wedding brings excitement, but also the weight of a challenging and risky pregnancy.
Filled with laughter, love, and the constant presence of life’s hardships, this play will have you laughing one moment and reaching for the tissues the next. Written by Robert Harling, Steel Magnolias was later adapted into the famous film starring Dolly Parton, Julia Roberts, and Sally Field. Harling’s inspiration came from his own sister’s battle with diabetes, making this story even more poignant and personal.
This witty, warm, and ultimately heart-breaking play asks the timeless question: Is it better to live 30 minutes of wonderful, or a lifetime of nothing special?
Don’t miss this powerful and moving performance at Stantonbury Theatre on 13th October.
