An Energetic, Pop-Powered Twist on Shakespeare!
On 31st March I had the pleasure of attending the opening performance of &Juliet at Milton Keynes Theatre, and it was an unforgettable experience. This vibrant pop musical reimagines Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, exploring what might have happened if Juliet chose life after Romeo. The narrative is both clever and empowering, offering a fresh perspective on the classic play. This & Juliet The Musical Review is full of praise for a show that truly delivers something special.
The cast delivered outstanding performances; Gerardine Sacdalan was the perfect Juliet! She delivered a truly unforgettable performance, capturing the essence of the character with both vulnerability and strength. Her voice soared through the energetic pop anthems and her energy on stage was incredible! I was completely captivated by her presence and talent, and it was clear she was the heart of the show. By the end, the standing ovation was more than deserved. She absolutely stole the spotlight and left a lasting impression with her brilliant portrayal of Juliet.
Another stand out performance for me was Lara Denning who played Anne Hathaway, she brought a perfect blend of humour, warmth, and depth to the role. She created a character that was both relatable and endearing. Her powerful voice and infectious energy lit up every scene!
Anne and Shakespeare (played by Jay McGuiness) had an amazing on-stage connection, with their witty banter bringing a delightful energy and charm to every scene they shared. Jay portrayed Shakespeare with a wonderful blend of humour and charm.
Lance (played by Lee Latchford-Evans) was also a standout for me. Very funny! Juliet’s loyal Nurse (played by Sandra Marvin) steals the show with her infectious energy and comedic brilliance. She provides much-needed comic relief while also serving as a grounded, loving figure in Juliet’s life.
Romeo (played by Liam Morris), though still central to the original narrative, takes on a slightly different role in &Juliet. Another brilliant performer! Honestly, everyone on the stage was incredible! The cast’s energy was infectious from start to finish!
& Juliet The Musical UK Tour is a new favourite musical of mine, featuring a soundtrack packed with pop hits that had me and the audience dancing in their seats. The choreography was dynamic, and the set design brilliantly complemented the modern twist on the classic story. I do not want to give away any spoilers but the entrance for some characters was impressive!
As an English teacher who introduces Romeo and Juliet to Year 8 students each year, I was both intrigued and impressed by &Juliet. The musical offers a playful, yet insightful reimagining of Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, making it accessible and relevant to modern audiences. What struck me most was how the show breathes new life into familiar themes of love, fate, and identity, all while staying rooted in the spirit of the original play.
I absolutely love the music in &Juliet! I have had the soundtrack on repeat ever since! The way Max Martin’s pop hits fit into the story is amazing. The powerful vocals and dynamic performances make every number exciting, adding to the show’s fun and uplifting message.
Milton Keynes Theatre provided the perfect venue for this spectacular show. The atmosphere was electric, and the standing ovation at the end was a testament to the talent! I highly recommend going to see “& Juliet” during its run here in Milton Keynes. It’s a joyous and uplifting experience that should not be missed!
