The Comedy Cow brought the Chrimbo Limbo Laughs to Stony Stratford on 27th December with a superb line up, as always.
In a packed out sold out venue, The Cock Hotel, we were treated to three incredible comedians all masterfully MC’d by the inimitable Mark Row. A fantastic stand up in his own right, Mark is also part of the herd that curates and delivers the Comedy Cow shows in Milton Keynes. Check out his comedy story on youtube: ‘A1, The Long Road to Edinburgh’.
Mark’s hosting skills are seasoned and sure, he reads the audience wonderfully and interacts with ease. A drama teacher by day, he brings the theatrics of everyday life and experiences to the stage with relatable repose. There was plenty of …interesting audience banter including Milky Malcom and a kind but intense interaction with people who absolutely did not want to be singled out but hey, front seats, you know you’re in the spotlight 😁
First up was President Obonjo. His Excellency being a comedic dictator, President of Lafta Republic with dubious connections with trump chums, hilariously investigated as to his true identity as a President making his figure world news worthy. He “came for the coronation and never went home” and Stony Stratford loved him for it. His piercing wide eyed stare and booming tone commanded attention, his modulation most mirthful. The President could just meander around the room, prowling with comic menace, with THAT look and demeanor and we’d be in nervous but hysterical giggles. You just don’t know what he’s going to say next and it’s riotous. Comedian and Musical Artist, he brings a unique brand of comedy to the stage with multiple accolades to his name including The Malcolm Hardee Award and Lastminute.com Comedian of the Year not to mention The Nobel Peace Prize (TBC).
Act 2 gave us Kent Cameron, a giant of a man with a personality and act to match. Self deprecatingly brilliant he centres on lived experience comedy, observing life and what has been thrown his way with a most beautiful approach. British Comedian of the Year Semi Finalist 2023, Comedy Hotspot New Act of the Year Finalist 2023 and Gag n Bone Man New Act of the Year 2023, Kent is reliably on his way to comedy super stardom. He has phenomenal audience connection and is pure, honest stand up. With his deep voice and great stature, you don’t expect the sweet tales that always take a highly entertaining twist…. Think Cooking with Calpol and One Leg and an Erection. “Is This Your Baby” will forever be in my mind when at work 👶 and the chuckles don’t end there. We actually went on a colposcopy journey with Kent, in gruesome glorious detail, provoking rather a lot of audience participation there. That skit was side splitting complete with physical comedy to get the point even further home, as if it were needed. Simply brilliant !
Enfin, now for the headliner, Marcel Lucont, the French alter ego of comedian and actor Alexis Dubus. Nonchalantly sauntering through the crowd, vin rouge in hand and velvety clad, Monsieur Lucont, flaneur, raconteur and bon viveur extraordinaire charmed us with his sardonic sarcasm. Not suffering any foolishness such as the pretend stage – it is a Carpet – he oozed his way through the set deliciously droll and smoothly satirical. It’s not just society scrutiny and the withering wit noting the ludicrousness of such things as WINE IN A CAN that had us in pieces, but that Marcel is also a poet, his lively oration and intense delivery wrapping you into his words with screams of laughter and cringe but not crass. We;;, maybe un peu 😉 That said, we the audience did choose the pensioner poem so we deserved all we got. Derisive from the start, Marcel drips with delicious disdain but wow, he had everyone in the crowd in the palm of his hand throughout. We couldn’t get enough of the mordant mocking, the well crafted but indifferent delivery and the haughty hilarity of this magnifique gentilhomme.
If you want more of Marcel, his CD’s and book is available at marcellucont.com.
Credits include Chortle Award Winner 2015 and the Best Comedy Show Fringe World 2013 and keep an eye on the Comedy Cow schedule for more appearances from ce genie de la comedie, marrant tres et sublimement superbe !
