Every winter, Willen Lake transforms into a sparkling festive paradise with Willen On Ice — a magical ice-skating experience set beside the beautiful lake. Under a giant marquee, families, couples, and friends can glide across real ice surrounded by twinkling lights, winter trees, and cheerful music.

The Ice Rink

The rink covers an impressive 800 square metres, giving plenty of space for both confident skaters and complete beginners. Whether you’re twirling gracefully or holding onto the side, the friendly staff and festive atmosphere make it a joyful experience for everyone.

Inside the marquee, you’ll be greeted by thousands of lights, sparkling decorations, and the cozy hum of laughter and music — the perfect setting for some winter fun.

Rides and Fairground Magic

Just outside the rink, the fun continues with a mini fairground. Expect rides like dodgems and mini roller coasters, perfect for kids (and the young at heart).

One of the highlights is the Observation Wheel, which gives stunning views across Willen Lake and the surrounding area — especially magical at night when the lights reflect off the water.

Food, Drinks & Warmth

After skating, you can treat yourself to a hot chocolate, mulled wine, or some tasty street food. From sweet treats to hearty snacks, there’s plenty to refuel and warm you up.

The Après Ski Bar is a cosy spot to relax, catch your breath, and soak in the winter vibes.

Prices (Including Skate Hire)

• Under 16s: from £9.90 (off-peak) or £11.95 (peak)

• Adults: from £12.40 (off-peak) or £15.40 (peak)

You can also get 10% off when buying four or more tickets together — perfect for families or groups of friends.

Early booking is recommended, especially during weekends and holidays, when sessions can sell out quickly. While walk-up tickets are sometimes available, online booking guarantees your spot.

Opening Hours

• Weekdays: Usually 5pm–9pm

• Weekends: 10am–9pm
  As December approaches, opening hours expand to offer even more skating sessions.

On some midweek days (like Wednesdays and Thursdays early in the season), the rink is open for skating only — no rides or fairground attractions.

Tips for First-Time Skaters

• Dress warmly but comfortably — layers are best!

• Gloves are a must, even for confident skaters.

• Use skating aids if you’re new or need a little help balancing.

• Bend your knees slightly and take small, steady steps to start.

• Take breaks — warm up with a drink or snack before heading back on the ice.
